Throwback 2014

We are just few hours away from entering a new year and I know all of this hype about the new year may get a little frustrating considering all the resolutions we have to make (and break!). But right now I'm just looking back to all my days in 2014. What a ride it was! More than half of my year was smooth and then the later half became shaky. However, I'm thankful anyways to God for being with me through it all.
Thought I should do some reminisce of the year through my style changes. Here's it!

Merry Christmas!

"For unto us a Child is born,

Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Isaiah 9:6

Rare Casual Days

It was just one of those very few days when I actually got time to catch up with Sonal. I'm pretty sure you know her if you've read my posts earlier. It's always good to find some time out for a friend whom you've been sharing all your burdens with. Not because she'll comfort you, but rather because you know she'd tell you exactly what is wrong with you and yet not judge you. And like always, we had to have an outfit shoot.

Shine Jesus, Shine!

"Lord, the Light of Your Love is shining,
In the midst of the darkness shining,
Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us,
Set us free by the truth You now bring us,
Shine on me. Shine on me."

I think I found it.

The new semester has begun. Entering the 5th semester does not make much difference to me, except for the new courses. Same professors, same labs, same classmates. There's a feeling of belonging now though. You don't have to try hard, don't have to stumble upon your own words, don't have to awkwardly smile at faculty members, it all comes easy. It's like, I've found where I belong. If not by choice, atleast by order of living.

Wild Love Sanctuary

I'm just done packing for tomorrow. Oh wait, it's already past 12 mid-night. Sigh. Well, I'll be in Delhi by God's grace, 4 pm today, away from home. To bid farewell to my home I took out time yesterday to click some memorable greenery around our backyard, things that would remind me of how "homely" our home is. Here are some pictures out of the many lot I clicked. I hope it reminds you of some Wild Life Sanctuary.

Vintage Keeps

I have been lying around at home for few days now, fishing through my old wardrobe, clothes to discard, give away or keep, when I found this one. This lilac dress belonged to my mother and had been lying for more than two decades maybe. I've blogged about a lot of my keeps from mom's closet. Mom's Closet and Stone Age- Carrying on the Legend to name a few.
The fit of this dress was not exactly my idea of a perfect garment, but then thought why not style it up and see how it looks. Then I came up with these two looks. You be the judge.

Hairy Tales

My second obsession after clothes might be Hairstyles, because this is not my first post related to it.
Read: My favorite hairstyles across the Internet (2012)
Both of these posts have eventually turned out to be my most read posts of all time. So, it is not only me who is obsessed with hairstyles, but hundreds of others out there are too. (Hello Hairy Freaks)
This time round, however, I'm gonna focus on one big trend- The Messy Long Bob.

Faces of Gujarat.

Remember me writing about how I went to Gujarat for college craft clusters?
Oh. You don't? Fine, lemme repeat, ufff. :P
NIFT is all about giving the students the opportunity to learn things outside college and make it more practical (giggles). Every 4rth semester student of theirs in the design department are sent to one cluster area to study the crafts and textiles of the area, for them to learn. For us, it was Surendranagar district of Gujarat.

These are few faces I captured and I believe is strong enough to stay in my mind for many moments to come.

Beginning of the Third Year.

Celebrations and Festivals are somehow always decked in shimmers and glitters.
Maybe it is a way to symbolize the "sparks" it brings to the human spirit, or maybe just a way to make it even more glamorous than it already is. My post this time doesn't have to do with any big festival though. Just a small milestone in my life- beginning of a new year for my blog.

Tribal Encounters

Hey people, as I promised my new post today is about the ITP (prototype development) collection we presented yesterday. Our group came up with the concept of global traveler at first, but with inputs and discussions with our faculty mentors, we came down to "the North-Eastern tribes". But who are we kidding? The NorthEast India is vast and varied in it's own number of tribes and traditions. So we finally narrowed it down to Mizo (Lushai) tribe, and because we did not want to go for the famous Puanchei, we chose the Puan Ropui for our element. We called our collection Tribal Encounters.
This is what our mood-board looked like:

Inside-Out (Tie and Dye)

Hey guys, we are on with our exams these days and I wanna share with you one of the technique we had to do for a subject NIFT calls Surface Development Technique. This semester we had Screen Printing, Block Printing, Tie and Dye, and Batik in our course, out of which we had to choose and develop a design. Here is my mood board and Story board for the same:

Reinventing Myself

If you've been following my posts, you'd notice how much I've changed over the months. The morph of my own being has been a rather confusing journey. Fashion-wise I've had a lot of people telling me how I've been away from myself. Let me tell you, a lot of your look is dependent on the chain of thoughts that happen within. You are equally important inside out. Me, I'm finally letting go.

Goodbye Winter Nights

Winter's gone. It saddens when I realize there's only little of late coffee nights left for us to enjoy. Even more sad, that the long coats and leather boots are off the rack for sometime.
I haven't posted a lot of ootd (outfit of the day)-s in the Winter, so here are some of my best looks taken at night. The way I styled myself the last season-

From Dusk to Dawn...

Isn't it always the best time to think? Dusk to Dawn? You and me both know how much we look back into our own lives and introspect and sometimes get so carried away we start feeling nostalgic, even with events we don't remember experiencing. The "what ifs", "I wish", "I regret"-s... they are always leaving our otherwise busy mind into a mode of serenity.

Of Fashion and Festivals.

PC: Amlan Jyoti
One of the best things about being in a fashion institute is the level of "hotness" when it comes to events of special interest. The annual college festival NIFT Delhi Spectrum '14 was held for three days, 25th to 27th February. The first day, or rather, night was the Fashion Show.
Here are some of the best shots

Surajkund Crafts Mela 2014

Like every year, our institute NIFT took us to the Surajkund Mela, our dept. on the 13th of this month. For those who are not from the capital or Haryana, Surajkund Mela is an annual fair where the hand-looms, handicrafts, cuisines, etc. of the country and other neighboring countries are showcased.
This time I had my camera and my wing-man to help me capture the essence for you (or so I tried). Here are some of the best shots I clicked.

My First Ever Garment~ Aced.

Hello People.
This is a "throwback" from last month, err, year. One of the subject we Fashion Design department have is the ITP or Prototype Development: a combination of all the main subjects to create a collection. It was a part of our End-term evaluation with the Jury from outside our own dept evaluated us. A nerve wrecking moment. Our first ever garment (for most of us atleast).
I'm featuring my garment for the most. I regret that I couldn't get the rest of my group mates' work. The whole process of selecting the theme, making the mood boards, color and swatch board, the muslin fit, etc. took us almost two weeks. But the final job of tracing the patterns, sourcing for the fabrics, cutting and constructing all took place in two days. That was a challenge accepted and executed. :)

Ode to the New Light...

Here's an Ode to the New Light...
An ode to the new heights,
An ode to the All Might.
Through the darkness I touch the ray
The scars of the scratches, though here to stay.
I've made peace with my fears
I've found ways to hide the tears.
And I'll be doing amazing,

Because I can see all the lights seeping
Through the tiny hole from all the fights,
Here's an Ode to the New Light...
